Why this one works at N4

It moves quickly, so it's genuine N4 listening practice — but the lines are short and the feelings are simple (shyness, longing, wanting to meet someone), so you're never lost. And it's so iconic that the chorus sticks after one or two plays. If the N5 songs feel easy, this is the right amount of stretch.

The song, part by part

The confession —

It opens on an apology: ごめんね 素直じゃなくて — "sorry for not being honest." 〜じゃなくて is the negative て-form of a な-adjective / noun: 素直 (sunao, honest/frank) → 素直じゃない → 素直じゃなくて ("not being honest, and…"). It's how you soften and connect: "I'm not honest, and that's why…"

Yattan isn't being mean — he's just shy.

〜じゃなくて = 'not being ~ (but…)'.

See the 〜じゃない guide.

The dream —

Then: 夢の中なら 言える — "if it's in a dream, I can say it." Two patterns here. 〜なら = "if / in the case of": 夢の中なら = "if it's inside a dream." And 言える is the potential form of 言う ("to say") → "can say." The whole ache of the song: only in a dream can the feelings come out.

In a dream, I can say anything.

〜なら = 'if'; 言える = potential of 言う, 'can say'.

The longing —

The chorus reaches out: 今すぐ 会いたい — "I want to see you right now." 〜たい turns 会う ("to meet") into 会いたい ("want to meet"). And later, 出会えた ("we were able to meet") is the potential again, in the past — meeting you at all was 奇跡 (kiseki, a miracle).
